The Amazing Oriental is an artist duo made of Ying Liu (CN) & Alireza Abbasy (IR), currently based in Rotterdam.
Our name is an ironic appropriation of the stereotypical images of our “Eastern” background constantly being projected on our practices. In other words, we embrace the alienation. Driven by an interest in emptiness practices, storytelling, and non-Western modes of thinking and being, we explore the landscape of visuality and collectivity in the arts, using performances, fantastical fiction writing, publishing and workshops.
