Session 1:

Wednesday, Oct 20, 2021, 19-20h

That day, I drank jasmine tea two times and a lot of tea leaves remained in the glass. I decided to unfold each tea leaf and place them one by one on a blank paper. However, I couldn’t
find any blank A4 paper in my room, I did find some blank music stave papers though. By unfolding the crumpled tea leaves with my fingertips, the wet leaves slowly revealed their whole shapes. The photos were taken on the next day, when the leaves had dried and so, had gotten crumpled again. An unintended natural music score.

Session 2:

Wednesday, Nov 3, 2021, 19-20h

A “counter” is the area of a letter that is entirely or partially enclosed (the counter-space/the hole of). Here, with a pen, I filled the counters, of all the a, b, d, e, g, o, p, and q’s. The book I was spending time on was “In search of lost time- volume 1”— something I haven’t read and probably will never have the urge to read.

Session 3:

Wednesday, Nov 17, 2021, 19-20h

I chose four sweaters from my wardrobe, two of them I didn’t feel like wearing anymore, as they were old and looked off. Through removing the pills by hands for an hour, the affection I had for wearing them unexpectedly came back.

Session 4:

Wednesday, Dec 1, 2021, 19-20h

In this one hour session of meditation, I was waiting for the hot water to cool down until my fingers couldn’t feel the warmth of the water. I poured the hot water in four distinctive (glass and ceramics, big and small) cups where the water needed different durations of time to lose the warmth. Then I recorded the amount of time I waited for each.

Ying Liu possitions herself as a time killer and sometimes a composer, experimenting the aimlessly long-term engagement with materials whilst accepting the uncertainty that comes with daily experiments in forms of installations, performances, videos and drawings.
