Three Collective Contemplation sessions are held during Prospects 2023. The first session honours the women-led Jina revolution in Iran, best known for the slogan “Woman-Life- Freedom”. The 2nd session is done together with guests from Rainbow Soulclub initiative in Amsterdam. And in the third session, invited artists currently exhibiting work at Prospects joined us.

Session 1:
(with Sarmad magazine)
8th Feb

#Zan_Zendegi_Azadi:

On September 16, 2022, Jina/Mahsa Amini, a 22-year old Kurdish Iranian woman, was beaten to death, in custody of the so-called Morality Police in Iran. Her name and her tragic story echoed lightning fast across the country (and the globe) unleashing the indescribable rage that united Iranians across different social strata, ethnicities and religions with one common goal: putting an end to the theocratic, totalitarian Iranian regime. The endless series of street protests and national strikes quickly turned into a full-blown revolution, the women-led Jina Revolution with the slogan Woman-Life-Freedom. The Iranian government’s reaction to the protests has been absolutely brutal.

In the first session of our Collective Contemplation, in silence, we honour those invaluable lost lives in Iran, all the young bodies maimed by batons and bullets, and all the tens of thousands of bodies imprisoned and their suffering families.

Despite all the sorrow, the ending of this story will undoubtedly be sweet.

Session 2:
(with Rainbow Soulclub)
10th Feb

#Rainbow_Soulclub:

The Rainbow Soulclub, an initiative of Saskia Janssen and George Korsmit, was established in September 2005 and involves weekly meetings and collaborative projects between clients of Stichting De Regenboog (providing shelter and care to the homeless and users of hard drugs in Amsterdam) and artists and art students. The encounters take place in the foundation’s walk-in shelters and drug-users’ spaces.

The starting point for these meetings is a mutual curiosity about each other’s lives. The aim is to share ideas for cooperation on every level. This is not limited to ‘art production’. The encounters have spawned a whole diversity of activities over recent years: pasting up posters in the city, altering street nameplates (albeit illegally), drawing, making pottery, shooting videos, hypnosis sessions, opportunities to write letters, to cook, to design new fonts, record music, make costumes, drive campaigns, and even transmit cosmic energy.

Session 3:
